Reasons to File a Self Assessment Tax Return
Let’s be honest, you are probably looking at this page because you need a tax return done! Or is there a niggling doubt that you even need to do one at all? Common reasons you would need to file a Self Assessment return are because :
- You have a Buy to Let Property
- You have claimed Child Benefit and earn over £60k
- You are a director of a limited company
- You are Self Employed
- You need to file a Capital Gains Tax return
- You need to reclaim CIS deductions
- You have other untaxed income such as dividends or interest which need to be declared
Capital Gains
Did you know there are new rules relating to the reporting and payment of capital gains on UK residential properties? Penalties will be incurred if you do not submit your property disposal return within 60 days of completion. This applies even if you have gifted a property and no money has been exchanged.
Non residents must also report and pay the Capital Gains via the UK Property Service website within 60 days of completion. You must still report the disposal even if there is no tax to pay if you are a non resident.
